He now works as an Area Administrator at the University of Bath, and lives with his wife and two children at Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire.

If you enjoy a well written and well thought out British Police murder mystery this book should be on your to be read list. DCS Spence is a gruff but likeable police officer who thinks the problem through and then takes action to bring the culprit to justice.I have rated this book at four stars and look forward to reading the next DCS Spence book in my to be read library.

A good read, for a third book in a series.
I think, this is the best of the three books
This is a very traditional British country house murder mystery. Not quite formulaic but very close! Limited cast of suspects as usual. Setting was well described. a light read and nothing very demanding.
This book lacks all in plot compared to the first two books. It started with promise and went downhill from there, ending with very little substance and not much else. Very disappointing as I was getting to like the series, this one just seemed thrown together.
A very good English mystery lots of people who could have done the murder. The one who did it wasn't even the major suspect. The people in this story are stories in them selves and look forward to hearing more of them in further mysteries.
I enjoyed reading this who-dunnit. It kept my interest and had a nice story line and character development. All was going along well until the end. I felt the ending was a bit contrived and forced. Other than that, I did enjoy this book.
I liked the author's writing style and the story had a good pace. However, I did not particularly like the detective. He was unnecessarily abrasive and insulting when interrogating the suspects and there was nothing distinctive or memorable about him. Also, I do not like the "I know who did it but I'm not going to tell you" device. The capture of the killer was just too easy. I'm not sure I'll read another book in the series.
This is the first time I have read any of Michael Allen's books and I'm sold. It is well-written with a exceptional story and wonderful development of characters. I've lived in England and the little things in the household are spot on'
